Walking to the tip at Grenen

27 September 2026

At the northern tip of Jutland two seas meet on a narrow sandbar. On a windy day you can watch the waves come in from two directions and fold into each other along a line of white water. It is one of those places that looks exactly like the photographs and still surprises you.

The walk out from the car park takes about half an hour on soft sand. Go early or late: at midday in summer the tip is crowded and the tractor bus runs back and forth. In October I had it almost to myself, apart from a few seals watching from the water.

Swimming is forbidden here and for good reason. The currents along the bar are strong and change quickly. Stand with one foot in each sea if you must, take your picture, and keep your eyes on the waves.
